निर्देश- प्रश्न संख्या (177 से 184) निम्नलिखितं गद्यांशं पठित्वा अष्टप्रश्नानां उत्तराणि समुचितं विकल्पं चित्वा देयानि- कश्चित् गोमायुर्नाम शृंगाल: क्षुत्क्षामकण्ठ: इतस्तत: परिभ्रमन् वने सैन्यद्वयसंग्रामभूमिमपश्यत् । तस्याञ्च दुन्दुभे: पतितस्य वायुवशात् वल्ली शाखाग्रै: हन्यमानस्य शब्दमशृणोत्। अथ क्षुभितहृदयश्चिन्तयामास। अहो! विनष्टोअस्मि । तद्यावत् न अस्य प्रोच्चारितशब्दस्य दृष्टिगोचरे गच्छामि तावत् अन्यतो व्रजामि। अथवा नैतत् युज्यते सहसैव पितृपैतामहं वनं त्यत्कृम । उक्तञ्च- भये वा यदि वा हर्षे सम्प्राप्ते यो विमर्शयेत् । कृत्यं न कुरुते वेगान्न स सन्तापमाप्नुयात् ।। तत् तावत् जानामि कस्य अयं शब्द:। धैर्य्यमालम्ब्य विमर्शयन् यावत् मन्दं मन्दं गच्छति तावत् दुन्दुभिम् अपश्यत् । स च तं परिज्ञाय समीपं गत्वा स्वयमेव कौतुकात् अताडयत् । भूयश्च हर्षात् अचिन्तयत्। ‘‘अहो! चिरादेतत् अस्माकं महत् भोजनमापतितम्, तत् नूनं प्रभूतमांसमेदोऽसृग्भि: परिपूरितं भविष्यति’’। तत: परुषचर्मावगुंठितं तत्कथमपि विदैरिय्या एकदेशे छिद्रं कृत्वा संहृष्टमना मध्ये प्रविष्ट: परं चर्मविदारणतोदंष्ट्रा भङ्ग: समजनि। अथ निराशीभूत: तत् दारुशेषमवलोक्य श्लोकमेनमपठत् । ‘‘पूर्वमेव मया ज्ञातम्’’ इति। ततो न शब्दमात्रात् भेतव्यम्’’। पिङ्गलक आह- ‘‘भो:! पश्य अयं मम सर्वोऽपि परिग्रहो भयव्याकुलितमना: पलायितुमिच्छति। तत् कथमहं धैर्य्यवष्टम्भं करोमि’’। सोऽब्रवीत् - ‘‘स्वामिन! नैषामेष दोषो यत: स्वामिसदृशा एव भवन्ति भृत्या:’’। शब्दं श्रुत्वा शृगालस्य मनसि प्रथम: विचार: क: आसीत् ?
