Badaun was an important strategic location in the Ganga-Yamuna doab region, and Qutbuddin Aibak captured it during his campaigns in northern India. Qutbuddin Aibak was a Turkish slave who rose to power and became the first Sultan of Delhi in the Mamluk dynasty.
