निर्देश: अधोलिखित गद्यांश को पढ़कर प्रश्न संख्या 84 से 89 तक के प्रश्नों के सबसे उपयुक्त उत्तर दीजिए: मैं साहित्य को मनुष्य की दृष्टि से देखने का पक्षपाती हूँ। जो वाग्जाल मनुष्य को दुर्गति, हीनता ओर परमुखापेक्षिता से बचा न सके, जो उसकी आत्मा को तेजोद्दीप्त न बना सके, जो उसके हृदय को परदु:खकातर और संवेदनशील न बना सके, उसे साहित्य कहने में मुझे संकोच होता है। मैं अनुभव करता हूँ कि हम लोग एक कठिन समय से गुजर रहे हैं। दुनिया छोटे-छोटे संकीर्ण स्वार्थों के आधार पर अनेक दलों में विभक्त हो गयी है। अपने दल के बाहर का आदमी सन्देह की दृष्टि से देखा जाता है। उसके प्रत्येक त्याग और बलिदान के कार्य में भी ‘बाल’ का सन्धान पाया जाता है और अपने-अपने दलों में ऐसा करने वाला सफल नेता भी मान लिया जाता है। बड़े-बड़े राष्ट्रनायक जब अपनी विराट् अनुचरवाहिनी के साथ इस प्रकार का गन्दा प्रचार करते हैं तो ऊपर-ऊपर से चाहे जितनी भी सफलता उनके पक्ष में आती हुई क्यों न दिखयी दे, इतिहास विधाता का निष्ठूर नियम प्रवाह भीतर ही भीतर उनके स्वार्थों का उन्मूलन करता रहता है। जो लोग द्रष्टा हैं, वे इस गलती को समझते हैं, पर उनकी बात मदमत्त व्यक्तियों की ऊँची गद्दियों तक नहीं पहुँच पाती। संसार में अच्छी बात कहने वालों की कमी नहीं है, परन्तु मनुष्य के सामाजिक संगठन में ही कहीं कुछ ऐसा बड़ा दोष रह गया है जो मनुष्य को अच्छी बात सुनने और समझने से रोक रहा है। इसलिए आज की सबसे बड़ी समस्या यह नही है कि अच्छी बात कैसे कही जाए; बल्कि यह है कि अच्छी बात को सुनने और मानने के लिए मनुष्य को कैसे तैयार किया जाए?लेखक के वर्तमान को कठिन समय क्यों कहा है?
