निर्देश (46-52): अधोलिखितं गद्यांशं पठित्वा तदाधारितप्रश्नानां विकल्पात्मकोत्तरेभ्य: समीचीनमुत्तरं चिनुत। मानवजीवनस्य नास्ति कोऽप्यंशो यत्र गोभिर्नोपक्रियते। यथा माता पुत्रं रक्षति पालयति, तथैव गौरपि रक्षति पालयति दुग्धादिना। अतिसरला मुग्धा चास्या आकृति:। तृणानि चरित्वा अमृतमयं दुग्धं ददाति मानवेभ्य:। अल्पा वत्सा बलीवर्दा भूत्वा हलशकटादिषु युज्यन्ते। गावो हि श्वेता:, कृष्णा, कपिला: पीता:, कर्बुराश्चेति नैकविधा:। कृषिप्रधानस्य भारतस्य मान एव सर्वस्वम् । गोजाता वृषा हलैर्भूमिं कर्षन्ति, उर्वराञ्च कुर्वन्ति । तैरेव क्षेत्राणि सिच्यन्ते कूपेभ्यो जलमुद्धृत्य । परिपक्वं च सस्यं तैरेव संशोध्यते गृहमानीयते च । ऐहलौकिक-पारलौकिकश्रेय:साधनस्य धर्मस्य गाव: प्रधानमङ्गम्। गोदुग्ध-दधि-घृतै: पुष्टानि भवन्ति शरीराणि। आयुर्वेदशास्त्रेषु दुग्धेषु गोदुग्धमेव उत्तमद्घुष्टम्, सर्वरोगेषु गोदुग्धस्यैवोपयोग: क्रियते । गव्यं धृतं बलं ददाति । यत्र भारते पुरा दुग्धदधि-घृतानां नद्य: प्रवहन्ति स्म तत्र हा ! दुग्धदधिघृतादयो हि दुर्लभा सञ्जाता: । कथमद्य वयं बलिनो भवेम, शुष्कभोजनाशिनामस्माकं कथं दीर्घम् आयु: स्यात् । अद्यत्वे, स्वतन्त्रे देशे आशास्महे यद् गोवंशस्य रक्षा क्रियेत राष्ट्रं च समृद्धं स्यात् । पुन: शोभनानि दिनानि पश्येम। गवां सेवया लौकिकं श्रेय: लभ्यते इतीतिहास एवात्र प्रमाणाम् । को न जानाति यद्रघुवंशावतंसो राजा दिलीपो गोसेवया पुत्ररत्नं लेभे । गौतमशिष्यस्य सत्यकामस्यापि गोसेवयैव तत्त्वज्ञानं बभूव । भारतसंस्कृतिर्गां मातरं मन्यते । वस्तुत: सा मातैव । सा सर्वाण्यपि साम्येन पालयति । न केवलं गोरक्षकेभ्य एव ददाति सुखानि,अपि तु गोघातकेभ्योऽपि तथैव सुखानि वितरति । कुपुत्रो जायेत क्वचिदपि कुमाता न भवति ।

Seeing that he was in exactly the same position as when she left him, she went and placed herself in front of the old man, and putting her hands behind her back, stood and gazed at him. Her grandfather looked up, and as she continued standing there without moving, "What is it you want?" he asked 2. "I want to see what you have inside the house," said Heidi. 3. "Come then!" and the grandfather rose and went before her towards the hut. 4. The old man turned and looked searchingly at the child, whose dark eyes were sparkling in delighted anticipation of what she was going to see inside. "She is certainly not wanting in intelligence," he murmured to himself. 5. The old man now opened the door and Heidi stepped inside after hi; she found herself in a good-sized room, which covered the whole ground floor of the hut. A table and a chair were the only furniture; in one corner stood the grandfather's bed, in another was hearth with a large kettle hanging above it; and on the further side was a large door in the wall - this was the cupboard. 6. Heidi looked carefully round the room, and asked, "Where am I to sleep, grandfather?" 7. "Wherever you like," he answered. Heidi gazed at her grandfather silently because she
