‘‘अथवाऽनार्य: परदारव्यवहार:’’ यह उक्ति है

निर्देश- प्रश्न संख्या (238 से 244) निम्नलिखितं गद्यांशं पठित्वा सप्तप्रश्नानां उचितं विकल्पं चित्वा उत्तराणि दातव्यानि। एकस्मिं नदीतीरे एक: जम्बूवृक्ष: आसीत् । तस्मिन् एक: वानर: प्रतिवसति स्म। स: नित्यं तस्य फलानि खादति स्म। कश्चित् मकरोऽपि तस्यां नद्यामवसत् । वानर: प्रतिदिनं तस्मै जम्बूफलान्यच्छत् । तेन प्रीत: मकर: तस्य वानरस्य मित्रमभवत् । एकदा मकर: कानिचित् जम्बूफलानि पत्न्यै अपि दातुं आनयत् । तानि खादित्वा तस्य जाया अचिन्तयत् अहो! य: प्रतिदिनमीदृशानि मधुराणि फलानि खादति नूनं तस्य हृदयमपि अतिमधुरं भविष्यति। सा पतिमकथयत् - ‘भो:! जम्बूभक्षकस्य तव मित्रस्य हृदयमपि जम्बूवत् मधुरं भविष्यति। अहं तदेव खादितुमिच्छामि। तस्य हृदयभक्षणे मम बलवती स्पृहा। यदि मां जीवितां द्रष्टुमिच्छसि तर्हि आनय शीघ्रं तस्य वानरस्य हृदयम्’। पत्न्या: हठात् विवश: मकर: नदीतीरे गत्वा वानरमवदत् – ‘बन्धो! तव भ्रातृजाया त्वां द्रष्टुमिच्छति। अत: मम गृहमागच्छ’। वानर: अपृच्छत् - ‘कुत्र ते गृहम् ? कथमहं तत्र गन्तं शक्नोमि ?’ मकर: अवदत् - ‘अलं चिन्तया। अहं त्वां स्वपृष्ठे धृत्वा गृहं नेष्यामि’। तस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा विश्वस्त: वानर: तस्मात् वृक्षस्कन्धात् अवतीर्य मकरपृष्ठे उपाविशत् । नदीजले वानरं विवशं मत्वा मकर: अकथयत् – ‘मम पत्नी तव हृदयं खादितुमिच्छति। तस्यै तव हृदयं दातुमेव त्वां नयामि।’ चतुर: वानर: शीघ्रमकथयत् –‘अरे मूर्ख! कथं न पूर्वमेव निवेदितं त्वया? मम हृदयं तु वृक्षस्य कोटरे एव निहितम्। अत: शीघ्रं तत्रैव नय येन अहम् स्वहृदयमानीय भ्रातृजायायै दत्त्वा तां परितोषयामि इति।’ मूर्ख: मकर: तस्य गूढमाशयं अबुद्ध्वा वानरं पुनस्तमेव वृक्षमनयत् । तत: वृक्षमारुह्य वानर: अवदत् – ‘धिङ् मूर्ख! अपि हृदयं शरीरात् पृथक तिष्ठति ? गच्छ, अत: परं त्वया सह मम मैत्री समाप्ता, सत्यमुक्तं केनचित् कविना विश्वासो हि ययोर्मध्ये तयोर्मध्येअस्ति सौहृदम्। यस्मिन्नैवास्ति विश्वास: तस्मिन् मैत्री क्व सम्भवा।।वानरेण मकरेण सह किमर्थं मैत्री समाप्ता?
