निर्देश- प्रश्न संख्या (253 से 259) निम्नलिखितं गद्यांशं पठित्वा सप्तप्रश्नानां समुचितं विकल्पं चित्वा प्रश्नानाम् उत्तराणि दातव्यानि। गङ्गाम् उभयत: विविधै: वृक्षै: सुशोभिता: ग्रामा: आसन् । तत्र एकस्मात् ग्रामात् बहि: वृक्षस्य अध: एक: जीर्ण: कूप : आसीत् । तस्मिन् कूपे मण्डूकानाम् अधिपति: गङ्गदत्त: परिजनै: सह निवसति स्म। स: गङ्गदत्त: परिश्रमं विनैव प्रभुत्वं प्राप्नोत् । अत: गर्वित: अभवत् । तस्य दुर्व्यवहारेण केचित् प्रमुखा: भेका: रुष्टा: जाता:। ते गङ्गदत्तम् अधिकारेण हीनं कृत्वा कूपात् बहि: कर्तुम् उद्यता: अभवन् । तद् ज्ञात्वा गङ्गदत्त: विषादम् अनुभवति स्म। ‘शत्रुणां नाश: कथं भवेत्’ इति एकान्ते चाटुकारै: सह मन्त्राणम् अकरोत्। एक: नष्टबुद्धिनाम मण्डूक: नत्वा अकथयत् -‘नीतिं विना किमपि न सिध्यति। शत्रु: शत्रुणा नाशयितव्य: इति नीति:। एषां शत्रूणां नाशाय सर्प: सहायक: भविष्यति। य: वृक्षस्य कोटरे निवसति। एवं संघर्षं विनैव शत्रुनाश: भविष्यति।’ तत: मूढ: गङ्गदत्त: कूपात् बहि: आगत्य सर्पस्य समीपं गत:। स सर्पं सादरम् उच्चै: अवदत् - ‘नागराजाय नम:।’ विषधर: अवदत् - ‘स्वागतम् सखे! किं ते प्रियं करवाणि। किमर्थं आगत: असि?’ गङ्गदत्त: अवदत् ‘त्वया सह मैत्रीं कर्तुं तव द्वारम् उपागत:।’ सर्पराज: तम् अपृच्छत् - ‘भक्ष्यभक्षकयो: मध्ये कीदृशी मैत्री?’ गङ्गदत्त: अकथयत् - ‘सत्यम्, परम् अधुना अपनानित: अहं तव साहाय्यम् अभिलषामि।’ ‘कस्मात् ते परिभव:?’ स्वजनेभ्य:। क्व ते निवास:, वाप्यां, कूपे तडागे वा?’ ‘कूपे । आगच्छ मया सह, कूपस्य अन्त: प्रविश्य मम शत्रून् नाशय।’ तत: सर्पराज तस्य वचनं स्वीकृत्य अकथयत्-‘अन्ध: अस्मि! मां कूपं नय।’ तदा तत्र गत्वा गङ्गदत्त: तस्मै प्रतिदिनं एकैकं मण्डूकं भोजनाय प्रयच्छति स्म। क्रमश: स सर्प: सर्वान् भेकान् अभक्षयत् अकथयत् च- ‘बुभुक्षित: अस्मि । प्रयच्छ मे अन्यत् भोजनम् ।’ गङ्गदत्त: अवदत् - ‘मार्गं देहि येन बहि: गत्वा अन्यस्मात् जलाशयात् मण्डूकान् आनयमि।’ तत: सर्प: तस्मै मार्गं दत्तवान् । गङ्गदत्त: बहि: आगत्य सोल्लासम् अवदत् - न गङ्गदत्त: पुनरेति कूपम् । कस्य दुर्व्यवहारेण मण्डूका: रुष्टा: जाता:।
