प्रदत्तप्रश्नानां (प्रश्न संख्या(233-242) विकल्पोत्तरेषु समुचितम् उत्तरं चित्वा लिखत। अस्ति वाराणस्यां कर्पूरपटको नाम रजक:। स च एकदा अभिनववयस्कया वध्वा सह चिरं केलिं कृत्वा निर्भरमालिङ्ग्य प्रसुप्त:। तदनन्तरं तद्गृहद्रव्याणि हर्तुं चोर: प्रविष्ट:। तस्य प्राङ्गणे गर्दभो बद्धस्तिष्ठति कुक्कुरश्च उपविष्ट: अस्ति। अथ गर्दभ: श्वानमाह- सखे, भवतस्तावदयं व्यापार:। तत् किमिति। त्वम् उच्चै: शब्दं कृत्वा स्वामिनं न जागरयसि? कुक्कुरो ब्रूते-भद्र मम नियोगस्य चर्चा त्वया न कर्तव्या। त्वमेव किम् न जानासि यथा तस्य अहर्निशं गृहरक्षां करोमि। यतोऽयं चिरान्निवृत्तो ममोपयोगं न जानाति। तेनाधुनापि मम आहारदाने मन्दादर:। यतो विना विधुरदर्शनं स्वामिन उपजीविषु मन्दादरा भवन्ति। गर्दभो ब्रूते शृणु रे बर्बर। याचते कार्यकाले य: स किम् भृत्य: स किम् सुह्रत्? कुक्कुरो ब्रूते – शृणु तावत्। भृत्यान्संभाषयेद्यस्तु कार्यकाले स किम् प्रभु: यत:- आश्रितानां भृतौ स्वामिसेवायां धर्मसेवने। पुत्रस्योत्पादने चैव न सन्ति प्रतिहस्तका:।। ततो गर्दभ: सकोपमाह – अरे दुष्टमते! पापीयांस्त्वं यद्विपत्तौ स्वामिकार्योपेक्षां करोषि। भवतु तावत्। यथा स्वामी जागरिष्यति तन्मया कर्तव्यम्। यत: पृष्ठत: सेवयेदर्कम् जठरेण हुताशनम्। स्वामिनं सर्वभावेन परलोकममायया।। इत्युक्त्वा उच्चै: चीत्कारशब्दं कृतवान्। तत: रजक: तेन चीत्कारेण प्रबुद्धो निद्राभङ्गकोपात् उत्थाय गर्दभं लगुडेन ताडयामास। अतोऽहं ब्रवीमि- पराधिकारचर्चां य: कुर्यात् स्वामिहितेच्छया। स विषीदति चीत्कारात् गर्दभ: ताडितो यथा।। ‘श्वा’ इत्यस्य पर्यायपदम्–
