निर्देश: गद्यांश को पढ़कर निम्नलिखित प्रश्नों (प्र.सं. 141 से 149) सबसे उचित विकल्प चुनिए। मुझे मालूम नहीं था कि भारत में ‘तिलोनिया’ नाम की भी कोई जगह है जहाँ हमारे देश के समसामयिक इतिहास का एक विस्मयकारी पन्ना लिखा जा रहा है। उस वक्त तक तिलोनिया के बारे में मुझे इतनी ही जानकारी थी की वहाँ पर एक स्वावलंबी विकास-केंन्द्र चल रहा है, जिसे स्थानीय ग्रामवासी, स्त्री-पुरुष मिलजुलकर चला रहे हैं। मुझे वहाँ जाने का अवसर मिला। बस्ती क्या थी, कुछ पुराने और कुछ नए छोटे-छोटे घरों का झुरमुट थी। वहाँ एक सज्जन ने बताया कि एक सुशिक्षित तथा उसके दो साथियों टाइपिस्ट तथा फोटोग्राफर ने मिलकर 1972 में इस संस्थान की स्थापना थी। संस्थान का नाम था- सामजिक कार्य तथा शोध-संस्थान(एस.डब्ल्यू आर.सी.)। मेरे मन में संशय उठने लगे थे। आज के जमाने में वैज्ञानिक उपकरणों और जानकारी के बल पर ही तरक्की की जा सकती है। उससे कटकर और अवेहलना करते हुए नहीं की जा सकती। एक पिछड़े हुए गाँव के लोग अपनी समस्याएं स्वयं सुलझा लेगें, यह नामुमकिन था। वह सज्जन कहे जा रहे थे ‘‘हमारे गाँव आज नहीं बसे हैं इन गाँवो मेंं शताब्दियों से हमारे पूर्वज रहते आ रहे हैं पहले जमाने में भी हमारे लोग अपनी सूझ और पहलकदमी के बल पर ही अपनी दिक्कते सुलझाते रहे होगे। जरूरत इस बात की है कि हम शताब्दियों की इस परंपरागत जानकारी को नष्ट न होने दें उसका उपयोग करें।’’ फिर मुझे समझाते हुए बोले ‘‘हम बाहर की जानकारी से भी पूरा-’पूरा लाभ उठाते है, पर मूलत: स्वावलंबी बनना चाहते हैं, स्वावलंबी, आत्मनिर्भर।’’ मुझे बार-बार गाँधीजी के कथन याद आ रहे थे। मैंने गाँधीजी का जिक्र किया तजो वह बड़े उत्साह से बोले ‘‘आपने ठीक ही कहा है। यह संस्थान गाँधी जी की मान्यताओं के अनुरूप ही चलता है- सादापन, कर्मठता, अनुशासन, सहभागिता। यहाँ सभी निर्णय मिल-बैठकर किए जाते है। आत्मनिर्भरता.....।’’ आत्मनिर्भरता से मतलब कि ग्रामवासियों की छिपी क्षमताओं को काम में लाया जाए और गाँधी जी के अनुसार, ग्रामवासी अपनी अधिकांश बुनियादी जरूरत की वस्तुओं का उत्पादन स्वयं करें। (एक तीर्थ यात्रा, स्त्रोंत: भीष्म साहनी)सामाजिक कार्य तथा शोध-संस्थान का उद्देश्य था

No matter where you work, sometimes subtle and sometimes very obvious competition is a part and parcel of workplaces. In an environment where most workers are seeking good appraisals, awards, promotions and reputation, fairness is not always on the minds of those competing with each other. I recall a story in elementary school about how to make a line smaller without cutting it. The answer to the challenge is drawing a bigger line beside the first line so that the one already drawn looks smaller automatically. The moral of the story is that is order to win over others, you don't necessarily need to cut them down. Competition is inevitable, but to outshine others, one way is to do a better job or advance yourself by learning and demonstrating skills. Some people resort to unfair means. They throw colleagues, take credit for others' work, gossip, backbite, go out of their way to please the bosses and do favours outside of work to earn favours at work, etc. When many employees at work take this approach, the culture of the place becomes toxic over time where it is hard for people to trust each other and contribute to a team environment. Some workers either get frustrated and disengaged and 'quietly quit', that is, they stop caring about work without actually quitting and do the bare minimum to not get fired. Some others simply leave. But quitting is not an option for everyone, especially when their income supports the family. There are extreme scenarios where people have ended their lives or suffered chronic mental or other health problems because they are unable to cope. Because job hopping is not easy and not always a solution for everyone, changing the toxic culture is important. A human resources department that trully supports employees and their well-being, a strong leadership and psychological safety at work that allows employees to speak up when they see something wrong without the fear of being reprimanded are some important prerequisities to achieve a work culture that is conducive to equitable growth opportunities for all.
