निर्देश (प्रश्न संख्या 118 से 142 तक) : निम्नलिखित अपठित गद्यांशों को ध्यानपूर्वक पढि़ए और दिए गए प्रश्नों के सही विकल्प चुनकर उत्तर-पत्रक में चिह्नित कीजिए। राष्ट्र्रीय के सर्वांगीण विकास के लिए चरित्र-निर्माण परम आवश्यक है। जिस प्रकार वर्तमान में भौतिक निर्माण का कार्य अनेक योजनाओं के माध्यम से तीव्र गति के साथ सम्पन्न हो रहा है, वैसे ही वर्तमान की सबसे बड़ी आवश्यकता यह है कि देशवासियों के चरित्र-निर्माण के लिए भी प्रयत्न किया जाना चाहिए। उत्तम चरित्रवान व्यक्ति ही राष्ट्र की सर्वोच्च संपदा है। जनतंत्र के लिए तो यह एक महान कल्याणकारी योजना है। जन-समाज में राष्ट्र, संस्कृति, समाज एवं परिवार के प्रति हमारा क्या कर्तव्य है इसका पूर्ण रूप से बोध कराना एवं राष्ट्र में व्याप्त समग्र भ्रष्टाचार के प्रति निषेधात्मक वातावरण का निर्माण करना ही चरित्र-निर्माण का प्रथम सोपान है। पाश्चात्य शिक्षा और संस्कृति के प्रभाव से आज हमारे मस्तिष्क से भारतीयता के प्रति हीन भावना उत्पन्न हो रही है। चरित्र-निर्माण, जो कि बाल्यावस्था से ही ऋषिकुल, गुरुकुल, आचार्यकुल की शिक्षा के द्वारा प्राचीन समय से किया जाता था, आज की लॉर्ड मैकाले की शिक्षा पद्धति से संचालित स्कूलों एवं कालेजों के लिए एक हास्यपद विषय बन गया है। आज यदि कोई पुरातन संस्कारी विद्यार्थी संध्यावंदन या शिखा-सूत्र रखकर भारतीय संस्कृतिमय जीवन बिताता है, तो अन्य छात्र इसे ‘बुद्धू’ या अप्रगतिशील कहकर उसका म़जाक उड़ाते हैं। आज हम अपने भारतीय आदर्शों का परित्याग करके पश्चिम के अंधानुकरण को ही प्रगति मान बैठे हैं। इसका घातक परिणाम चारित्र्य-दोष के रूप में आज देश में सर्वत्र दृष्टिगोचर हो रहा है। उन्नत राष्ट्र के लिए विकास का प्रथम सोपान है
