UzChess Cup Masters 2025

• The UzChess Cup Masters 2025 was an international Super Grandmaster chess tournament held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, from June 19 to June 27, 2025.
• This tournament wrote a historic chapter for Indian chess, as young Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa won it and achieved many important achievements.

Tournament Highlights:

• Winner: India's 19-year-old Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa became the winner of this tournament.
• Historic Achievement: By winning this title, Praggnanandhaa became India's number one chess player after Vishwanathan Anand in the live FIDE ratings. This victory took him to fourth place in the world rankings, which is the highest ranking of his career.
• Exciting Final: The tournament ended in a very dramatic way. Praggnanandhaa defeated host country's strong contender Nodirbek Abdusattarov in the last classical round. After this win, Praggnanandhaa, Abdusattarov and Uzbekistan's Javokhir Sindarov all three were tied with 5.5 points.
• Victory in tiebreaker: The winner was decided through a thrilling blitz tiebreaker, in which Praggnanandhaa displayed patience and brilliant play to beat both his rivals and win the title.
• Prize money: Praggnanandhaa received a prize money of $20,000 for this win.
• Participants: This was a highly prestigious tournament in which 10 world class grandmasters took part. Apart from Praggnanandhaa, these included legendary players like Arjun Erigaisi of India, Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia and Richard Rapport of Hungary.
